OKLAHOMA : A PORTRAIT OF AMERICA |
|
|
Oklahoma : A Portrait of America is a collaborative creative project that is a humble attempt to capture the essence of Oklahoma. We wanted to portray the quirky nobility of the people that have come together to form this very American state. From the native Americans who roamed the Plains with the buffalo to the cowboys who came with the cattle, from the oil barons to the outlaws, the settlers and the Sooners, the proud African Americans who believed this was going to be their Paradise Found, and all the others who came from all directions to make a new life in this territory, all are now Oklahomans.
We were fortunate that some of them shared themselves with us. The three of us traveled from corner to corner for two years, shooting the people and the places that we found. We always tried to honor the moment, and the people who were in it.
Along the way, we gathered others who were just as passionate about this project as we were: Dr. Ed Wade, Rilla Askew, Chad Mjos, Bryan Cooper, and more every day. Now this wonderful project has turned into a book, due out in November. And posters. And photos. And who knows what else? Register your email address and we’ll let you know what will be available, and when. You’ll find it all right here, as soon as we make our deadlines.
Many thanks to everyone who has been so supportive as we traveled on this journey: spouses, partners, friends, and associates. Especially the gang at Littlefield and the rest of our creative community who fed our energy and helped us as we needed it. And finally, a very special thanks to Louisa McCune-Elmore and the rest of the staff at Oklahoma Today, who believed in this from the very beginning.
